Statement from Glitnir’s Resolution Committee
Due to media accounts of the past few days of a discrepancy of over EUR 750 million, which was recently revealed in reconciliation of Glitnir's accounts and disclosed at a creditors' meeting this past week, Glitnir's Resolution Committee would like to point out the following:
- This matter is currently being examined by the auditing firm Deloitte and not by the financial investigators Kroll, as there is nothing to indicate at this point that the discrepancy is connected with any unlawful actions.
- The discrepancy in question was revealed when Glitnir's accounts were reconciled against those of an outside party. This work is now underway at Glitnir and is part of preparations undertaken by the Winding-up Board and Resolution Committee prior to taking decisions on claims lodged against Glitnir's estate. The deadline for lodging claims against the estate is 26 November of this year. This is, therefore, not a case of a new claim against the bank by a single party having come to light, as has incorrectly been claimed in one or more media reports.
- Glitnir's Resolution Committee will report on Deloitte's conclusions in this matter as soon as they are available.
On behalf of Glitnir's Resolution Committee,
Árni Tómasson
